Community Organizations

Mt. Airy is a unique community of tree-lined streets, close to parks, with a mixture of large homes, row houses and apartment complexes, and public and private schools. Germantown Avenue is the main thoroughfare of the community and the business district. The Germantown/Mt. Airy/Chestnut Hill area, which makes up the Northwest part of Philadelphia, is also an historic area which played pivotal roles during the Colonial period and the Revolutionary War. A spirit of cooperation permeates the neighborhood in the various community organizations, and has contributed, in part, to the area being one of the national models of a successfully integrated neighborhood. People continue to work on solving problems that arise.

Community Organizations

Below are links to some of the important organizations in Mt. Airy and the city.

East Mt. Airy Neighbors and West Mt. Airy Neighbors - At one time, both community organizations had oversight of Mt. Airy Learning Tree. Each group works on maintaining racial stability in the community and deal with such issues as crime and safety, schools, and beautification, sometimes in tandem.

Mt. Airy Business Association - Mt. Airy Learning Tree is now a member of MABA, whose purpose is to support and help promote small, large and home busineses in Mt. Airy, as well as organizations and educational institutions that make up the community, and to promote Mt. Airy as a viable place to shop. Members include not just businesses, but non-profit organizations, schools and political representatives.
