Let us know your thoughts about MALT’s purpose/impact/vision, through e-mail, the form on the feedback page, or fax at (215) 843-6655. In the meantime, we will weave all your thoughts into our ongoing discussions as we clarify who we are and where we are heading.
Have you ever wondered about Mt. Airy Learning Tree, the organization? Do you wonder why we have the policies we do? Whether we are “for profit” or not? What is MALT’s policy for snow storms (or hurricanes for that matter)? We want you to read through the catalog, take in all the classes and then let us know what you think. On the feedback page there is a form designed just for your thoughts and reactions. We are proud to be a community based organization, and you are the community. Please take a moment to let us know what you think about the Learning Tree.
Mt. Airy Learning Tree is a community service organization founded in 1980 to enrich Mt. Airy and the broader Northwest Philadelphia Community. MALT celebrates the diversity of Northwest Philadelphia, bringing together neighbors to share a wide variety of ideas, information and skills in informal learning environments. Courses that encourage exchange among people of different ages; that reflect the backgrounds, experiences and talents of our community, and that focus on issues of concern to the community are of particular interest.
MALT now offers more than 240 courses three times a year, in the fall, winter and spring. Topics range literally from A (African and Jazz Dance, The Art of Memoir Writing, and more) to Z (Zero Taxes Deducted from Your Paycheck). Our classrooms are in local churches, schools, businesses and homes or outdoors in the Wissahickon and at local points of interest. Course ideas are limited only by our collective imagination. Our teachers are people like you - people who want to share their passions with other adults and who believe in community oriented exchange.
MALT operates as a community-based non-profit corporation, with a small part-time staff and volunteer board. We are committed to the value of life-long learning, contributing to the welfare of ourcommunity, and providing a good deal of fun along the way. We welcome your ideas, your involvement as students and teachers, and your financial support.
There are many ways to register for courses on our website. The easiest way to register is to first select a course. All of the web pages have a link to the Catalog pages. If you already have a MALT account, you will be asked to logon after making one course selection. If you are new to MALT, you will be asked to create an account, and then logon. Follow the easy instructions. If you do logon first, to update your profile for example, you can get to the Catalog from the left frame, by clicking on Courses|By Group.
Here’s a solution to a common account problem – folks register a long time ago, and don’t remember that they have a MALT account until they try to create a new account. If you enter an email address that is already on file, you will receive an error message that reads "this account is already being used." This usually means you already have a MALT account! Logon with the email address that is already in the system, but use the default password: your first and last name initials, plus your zip code. For example if Sam Ford who lives in Mt Airy needed to use his default password, it would be "SF19119". Mary Chance Lee in Chestnut Hill would be "ML19118". You will be asked to create a new password. And please take a moment to update your profile, especially your day and evening phone numbers and your email address. It’s how we communicate with you in the event of a sudden change in your course.
If
you’re signing up for a course or courses that total $20 or more,
select as your first course the $5 per person, per term registration fee! This will save you a lot
of time and trouble in the registration process. You
can start your registration process right now, with the registration fee
here.
We Now Have Secure Online Transactions - We added an SSL secure certificate in early June 2007. When you register online now, your credit card transactions are secure. Watch for the lock and the https in the address bar.
